CLEVELAND — We are less than six months away from the arrival of the total solar eclipse in Northeast Ohio.

To celebrate this milestone event, the Cleveland Monsters are getting in the spirit of things with a "Total Solar Eclipse Game," which will be played on Saturday March 30, 2024 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. The game versus Rochester will take place nine days before the rare celestial event on April 8, with the puck dropping at 3:15 p.m.

Why 3:15 p.m., you ask?

NASA says the eclipse will begin at 1:59 p.m. in Cleveland. Totality begins at 3:13 p.m. with maximum effect at 3:15 p.m. Totality ends around 3:17 p.m. before the partial eclipse finishes at 4:29 p.m.

All fans in attendance on March 30 will receive a "Total Solar Eclipse Survival Pack," including a pair of Monsters eclipse glasses and a commemorative t-shirt that proclaims “I was in The Land for the total solar eclipse.”

The team says the front of the shirt depicts the moon blocking the sun, replaced by the Monsters logo, "because all things revolve around Monsters hockey."

You want more total solar eclipse puns? Here you go!

“We are over the moon to add this North Star promotion to our already stellar 2023-24 promotional schedule,” said Monsters SVP & Chief Marketing Officer Ben Adams in a statement. “Promotions this good only come about once every 400 years or so.”

But wait, there's more.

“Unlike on the lunar surface, the atmosphere at this game should be fantastic,” said Monsters President Mike Ostrowski. “We’ve appreciated the patience of our fans as we add this promotion, as it took a lot to planet.”

Starting Thursday, a limited number of $4.08 seats will be made available to the public to celebrate the date of the total solar eclipse. Click here for ticket information.

If you're worried about bad weather on April 8 spoiling the fun, fear not. The Monsters say if local viewing of the total solar eclipse is prevented by the elements, all purchasers to the Monsters' "Total Solar Eclipse Game" will receive a free ticket to a mutually agreed upon game.

The Monsters will open the home portion of their 2023-24 schedule against the Syracuse Crunch on Friday at 7 p.m. Opening Night is presented by SeatGeek and the first 7,500 fans will receive a magnet schedule courtesy of University Hospitals Sports Medicine. Tickets are available here.

Did you hear the one about why the sun didn't go to college? Because it already had a million degrees.
