CLEVELAND — Another year, another season of Guardians baseball!
Last week, the team announced its equipment truck had left for spring training in Arizona, signaling the unofficial start of spring (sorry, Punxsutawney Phil). Now, fans have another glimpse into how things will look at Progressive Field in 2024 with the unveiling of the full promotional schedule.
For starters, single-game tickets will go on sale on Feb. 16, better known as "216 Day" in Cleveland. Due to ongoing renovations at the ballpark, fans will not be able to purchase seats at the box office this season and must instead buy them online.
Now to the free stuff: This year's promotional slate features four bobblehead giveaways, three jersey promotions, eight complimentary shirts, and even a number of unique items such as a Hawaiian shirt and a belt bag. In addition, there will be more than a dozen fireworks nights (including two "Rock 'N' Blast" events) and nine Sugardale Dollar Dog Nights, the first of which is set for May 17.
There will also be a number of special promotions just for season ticket holders, such as college caps and bobbleheads featuring "Peanuts" characters. The most memorable giveaway will occur on "Star Wars Day" on May 4 with the opportunity to snag an "Obi-Kwan Kenobi" bobblehead featuring Gold Glove left fielder Steven Kwan.
Also returning this year is the Guardians Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Aug. 3, when one of the franchise's all-time greats will be enshrined forever in Heritage Park. Following a seven-year hiatus, the club brought the special occasion back in 2023 by honoring Dale Mitchell and Manny Ramírez, and once again the first 15,000 fans through the gates will receive a special bobblehead depicting one of the yet-to-be-announced inductees.
However, the biggest night could very well be on June 22, when the stadium will host a special postgame concert featuring none other than basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal. The Hall of Famer and one-time Cavalier will DJ and perform as his hip-hop persona "DIESEL," with patrons likely to hear hits like "(I Know I Got) Skillz" and "What's Up Doc? (Can We Rock)."
Finally, we turn our attention to the home opener on April 8, when all fans will not only receive the customary magnet schedule but also have an opportunity to experience a rare total solar eclipse prior to first pitch. The Guards have indicated they are planning more for the once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon, but have not yet made a decision on possibly pushing the game back to make things easier for those wanting to look up at the sky. Nothing further was announced on Tuesday.
