WOOSTER, Ohio — Turner Kurt had 22 points and eight rebounds and Wooster went on a 19-0 run in the final six minutes to secure a stunning 69-63 come-from-behind victory over Oberlin Wednesday night.
All hope seemed lost when Oberlin led 63-50 and appeared to be on the verge of snapping its four-game losing streak. That's when Wooster's offense finally found its grove, with Kurt scoring seven of the last 19 points and making the free throws that put his team ahead for good with 1:12 to go. The Fighting Scots (13-4, 9-1 NCAC) have now won five in a row and are still in control of first place in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Western Reserve Academy grad Dorde Otasevic finished with 18 points and eight boards, but the Yeoman (5-12, 3-8) missed six field goals and two free throws during that final spurt. After Yuuki Okubo missed a potential go-ahead jumper with 49 ticks on the clock, Kurt made a layup and was fouled by Asaan Snipes-Rea before completing the 3-point play that turned out to put the game out of reach.
Wooster will next be at Hiram Friday night (with no fans allowed in attendance), while Oberlin will host Wittenberg Saturday afternoon.
