PARIS, France — 21-year-old Marcus Christopher of Canton narrowly missed winning a medal for Team USA in the BMX freestyle finals at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday.
He finished in fourth place out of nine competitors.
Each athlete was given two runs, but only their best score counted.
Christopher fell on his first run, scoring a 29.40. His second run brought a 93.11 -- which put him very close to the podium as the third-place finisher beat him with a score of 93.76.

He qualified for the medal round on Tuesday after finishing in second place out of 12 competitors with an average score of 89.48.
Born in Hartville, Christopher currently resides in Canton. This marked his first time in the Summer Games.
So far, there have been two athletes with ties to Northeast Ohio who have won a medal in the Paris Olympics:
- Lee Kiefer, who was born in Cleveland, won gold in women's individual foil. She also won gold in the same competition during the previous Olympics in Tokyo.
- Hunter Armstrong, of Dover, won gold in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay.
