ELYRIA, Ohio — An Elyria police officer is recovering after he was hurt in a two-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning on Fuller Road near Edward Avenue.
The incident occurred around 6:48 a.m. as officer Terrence Kenneally was operating a police cruiser when a driver from Grafton in a 2001 Toyota Corolla “failed to yield the right of way while attempting to turn southbound onto Edward Avenue,” according to the Elyria Police Department when releasing details Thursday morning.
All occupants of both vehicles were hurt as a result of the crash – including a 10-year-old passenger in the Toyota. Each person was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The Toyota’s driver was issued a citation for failure to yield. Officer Kenneally was on routine patrol and not responding to any call for service.
“We wish them all a speedy recovery,” Elyria Police Chief Bill Pelko said in a statement.
