Memphis Kiddie Park to close Thursday amid heat wave

'Stay healthy and hydrated, and come play with us again on Friday,' the park said.

CLEVELAND — A Northeast Ohio amusement park is shutting its gates on Thursday as a punishing heat wave continues to affect the region. 

Memphis Kiddie Park in Brooklyn announced on social media Wednesday that despite its employees' best efforts, the park will be closed for the first day of summer and reopen on Friday.

"Our team has been doing their best to keep the fun going through this heat, but for everyone's health and safety, we're taking a break and will be closed on Thursday, June 20," the business posted. "Stay healthy and hydrated, and come play with us again on Friday!"

The closure comes amid a days-long heat wave bringing temperatures around 90 degrees and heat indices near the 100s in Northeast Ohio and other parts of the U.S. 3News has declared Weather Impact Alert Days through at least Saturday amid the dangerous conditions.
