'All hands on deck': Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb addresses plans as high-impact winter storm approaches

'Snow plows can only move as quickly as they possibly can given inclement weather events in our city.'

CLEVELAND — As a strong winter storm targets Northeast Ohio with heavy snow and ice later this week, the city of Cleveland is preparing to battle the wintry conditions.

“We will do everything we possibly can to keep our streets safe in the event of a major storm later this week,” Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb said Monday morning. “It’s all hands on deck.”

But Mayor Bibb is also asking for patience.

“Snow plows can only move as quickly as they possibly can given inclement weather events in our city,” he said.

This incoming high-impact winter storm will hit the region just one week after Mayor Bibb announced some updates to the city’s snow removal plan – which includes expanding the number of trucks.

“It’s our intention that over the course of the year we’re going to have 20 additional trucks and 20 additional drivers to augment our existing capacity in our public words department,” Bibb said. “Those 20 trucks will not happen overnight. They will not be here by Wednesday’s snow event.”

Another update to the city's snow plan that launched last week is a new snow plow tracker that allows anybody to monitor snow plowing progress throughout Cleveland. You can explore that plow tracker HERE.

So what are we expecting from this winter storm?

"Things will go downhill on Wednesday with high impacts across the entire area on Thursday," 3News Chief Meteorologist Betsy Kling said Sunday. "Impacts will last into the weekend."
