NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio — Preparations are continuing in North Olmsted, where the new Phoenix Theatres at Great Northern Mall will open next month.
In a release sent on Tuesday, Michigan-based Phoenix Theatres announced that the grand opening at the former Regal Cinemas site at Great Northern will take place on Thursday, June 13.
So what will moviegoers experience at this new theater?
The company says the new Phoenix Theatres will include ENCORE, Cleveland’s largest movie screens measuring up to 60 feet wide featuring Dolby ATMOS, a spatial sound experience that puts the audience in the center of the action.
“We wanted to do something truly spectacular and enhance the cinema experience to a new level,” said Jordan Hohman, executive in charge of project development for Phoenix Theatres. “Each auditorium will feature Dolby 7.1 digital sound and loudspeaker systems, and presented for the first time in Cleveland, we will be introducing Dolby ATMOS, the latest innovation in immersive sound technology. Dolby’s ATMOS process brings the next evolution in sound to the cinema, as each auditorium becomes a three-dimensional soundscape that envelops the audience in a truly immersive audio experience.”
Phoenix is also promising guests with the "clearest and largest possible picture and the most immersive movie-going experience by combining Dolby ATMOS with Christie’s 4K Digital Cinema projection and newly developed micro-perforated screens.
In addition, every auditorium will feature "100% heated reclining seats with reserved tickets available." The company says heated reclining seating is "a customer favorite and a signature feature in all Phoenix Theatres."
“When we discovered several years ago the newest feature available was heated seats, we thought this would make the experience even more comfortable and perfect to warm everyone up on a chilly day or even in the middle of summer,” added Cory Jacobson, owner of Phoenix Theatres.
Guests at Phoenix Theatres can also look forward to these amenities:
- Phoenix mobile app and online tickets that allow customers to reserve their seats easily.
- Self-serve Pepsi and butter stations for added service speed and convenience.
- Combined ticketing and concession purchases in one line.
The theatre will officially open to the public on Thursday, June 13th at 3:00 p.m. for the premiere of “Inside Out 2” in ENCORE featuring Dolby ATMOS and “Bad Boys 2” presented in ENCORE featuring Dolby ATMOS. These films will kick off the busy summer blockbuster film season that will include: “A Quiet Place – Day One,” “Twisters,” “Despicable Me 4,” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
Moviegoers can reserve their tickets today at Phoenixmovies.net or by visiting the theatre’s box office.
“I am personally thrilled with the return of a movie theatre to the City of North Olmsted. I applaud Phoenix Theatres for what they are doing to revitalize the space,” said North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones. “It’s a great thing for not only Great Northern Mall, with whom we have an excellent partnership and relationship, but it is also terrific for the city. I hope that our residents – and those from other neighboring communities – will take advantage of all the new theatre will offer.”
The former Regal Cinemas at Great Northern closed its doors in January 2023. Great Northern Mall announced on Jan. 23 of this year that Phoenix Theatres had signed a "long-term lease" with plans to invest $5 million to refurbish the 10-screen theater in North Olmsted.
