CLEVELAND — A 20-year-old man was fatally shot while driving in Cleveland on Monday evening.
According to Cleveland Police, officers responded to 10006 Kempton at 10:15 p.m. following a Shotspotter alert for shots fired. Upon arrival, officers were flagged down by a person who told them that a male was down in the street.
Officers proceeded to locate the 20-year-old victim who had a gunshot wound to his neck and provided aid until the arrival of EMS. The victim, who has since been identified as Demetrius Williams of Cleveland, was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Based on a preliminary investigation, authorities believe that the victim was traveling in a vehicle on Kempton when another vehicle drove up to him and fired shots toward Williams, striking him. Williams then crashed the vehicle he was driving into parked vehicles.
Police say that one male was taken into custody on an unrelated warrant and that no arrests have been made in this shooting.
