AKRON, Ohio — Two suspects are in custody after a 22-year-old DoorDash delivery driver was fatally shot in Akron on Wednesday night.
According to Akron police, officers responded to the 1400 block of Timber Trail for a shooting just before 11:30 p.m. Upon arriving, officers found a 22-year-old male in the parking lot with a gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, where he was initially listed in critical condition before succumbing to his injuries on Thursday morning. The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office has since identified the victim as Jaevierre Greer of Akron.
Detectives determined that Greer had arrived at the location to make a DoorDash delivery and was shot by unknown suspects after exiting his vehicle. Officers later identified 21-year-old Matthew Couch and 19-year-old Derek Ransome-Fromby as the suspects responsible for the shooting.
Both suspects were later located at a residence in the 1400 block of Tyler Street around 4:45 a.m. on Thursday and taken into custody without incident. They were each charged with felonious assault and booked into the Summit County Jail, with additional charges, including murder, pending.
Further investigation revealed that the victim and an acquaintance were involved in an altercation with the suspects in the Highland Square area prior to the shooting. An investigation remains ongoing.
