Cleveland Police arrest man accused of breaking into cars downtown

Cleveland Police arrested 44-year-old Brian Bodenschatz, who has been accused of breaking into cars in the downtown area in recent weeks.

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Police have arrested a man who is accused of breaking into multiple cars in the downtown area in recent weeks.

Police said on Wednesday morning that they arrested 44-year-old Brian Bodenschatz. In addition to the break-ins, Bodenschatz also had an active burglary warrant.

The arrest happened less than 24 hours after Cleveland Police asked for help from the public in locating the suspect.

The announcement from Cleveland Police came less than a week after residents in the Playhouse Square District spoke to 3News about a rash of car break-ins in the area in recent weeks. It is unknown whether Bodenschatz is connected to any break-ins in the area.

At the time, Cleveland Police told 3News that the number of vehicles broken into is around 10. One suspect has been arrested, and other suspects have been identified, according to police.

Additionally, the Downtown Cleveland Alliance can respond to calls at 216-621-6000 from 7 a.m. to midnight every day, and can provide safety escorts in the downtown area, and can also assist with vehicle lockouts, and gas and battery troubles.
