Family increases reward to $100,000 to help solve Rocky River Reservation murders

The original reward was $30,000.

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — It has now been eight months since two people -- Katherine Brown and Carnell Sledge -- were murdered at the Rocky River Reservation last summer.

The case remains unsolved despite "numerous leads."

Members of Brown's family joined the FBI for a press conference Wednesday morning in which it was announced that reward money for anybody with information in the case has been increased to $100,000.

Previously, the reward was at $30,000.

"As a family, we have raised an additional $70,000," Brown's father said. "This raises the total reward to $100,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Kate and ‘Nell’s murderer. We want to reassure you that when you call the FBI or when you call CrimeStoppers or the Metroparks police to provide a tip, you will remain strictly anonymous. We strongly believe that someone out there has heard or seen something.”

Brown's sister also spoke, pleading with anybody who has information to speak up.

“We wake up every day, not only ridden with grief, but constantly questioning how and why two wonderful people had been gunned down," she said. "Our family has pledged to keep Kate and ‘Nell’s story alive until the person or persons responsible are brought to justice.”

Back on June 4, the bodies of Sledge, 40, and Brown, 33, were found by kayakers near the river north of the Lorain Road Bridge.

Both were shot in the head.

Authorities say Sledge and Brown arrived to the park in separate vehicles, parking in the lot north of the bridge around 5:04 p.m. The pair, who police say were longtime friends, sat on a park bench by the river for a short time before they were shot sometime between 5:08 to 5:15 p.m.

The kayakers who found them arrived about three minutes later.
