4 dead following several shootings in Summit County over weekend

'These all are very tragic, very senseless incidents and didn't have to happen,' Akron Police Captain Michael Miller said.

AKRON, Ohio — It was a violent weekend in Summit County. The Akron Police Department is investigating three fatal shootings, and police in Springfield Township are also looking for the gunperson who left someone dead.

The latest incident happened just before midnight on Sunday. Akron PD was called to the 300 block of East South Street, and a 44-year-old woman was found dead with a gunshot wound.

On Saturday night, Akron police report an 18-year-old woman died and two other teens were hospitalized after a shooting during a Halloween party on Paris Avenue

"Another tragedy, another gaping void in the family's life in terms of that loss," Captain Michael Miller said. "Senseless too. I mean, we say that a lot, but these all are very tragic, very senseless incidents and didn't have to happen."

On Friday night, a 25-year-old man was found dead inside an apartment from gunshot wounds on the 1100 block of Keys Place. His neighbors told 3News they hear gunshots all the time.

"I just busted up crying, because there's a lot of gun violence up here," Honjay Boswell lamented. "There's a lot of shootings up here. I feel sorry for the family. My heart goes out to them. I lost a child up here, so I understand how they feel. It's too much. It's just way too much, and it seems like nobody cares."

Miller said he understands the concerns they're hearing from the Akron community.

"We recognize that we've been impacted by this type of violence over the weekend, but that doesn't stop our officers, the patrol officers, the detectives from being absolutely committed to reducing gun violence in general, the violent crime in general," he said. "As we know, violent crime is down, but that doesn't speak to the how people feel about this incident, so we just want folks to know that we're out there doing our very best to solve these crimes and any other crime moving forward."

Meanwhile, the Springfield Township Police Department told us it is still looking for the person who shot and killed one person and injured another at a Halloween party in the early hours of Sunday morning.

While chatting with Akron PD on Monday, we also asked for an update on the mass shooting back in June that left one dead and 28 injured. Miller responded that they still have no suspect, but the investigation remains active. He is asking for the public's help on more leads that can lead to an arrest.
