AKRON, Ohio — One person is dead and a firefighter was injured following a blaze at a house in Akron on Friday.
According to a release from Akron Fire Department Lt. Sierjie Lash, crews responded to a call reporting 'lots of gray smoke' coming from a house in the 1300 block of Brandon Avenue. When companies arrived, they noticed heavy smoke showing from several windows of the home.
Neighbors told fire officials that they believed a person was possibly in the house. There was also a vehicle parked in the driveway. The victim of the fire was transferred to the Summit County Medical Examiners Office. Identification of the victim is pending notification of next of kin.
The fire was deemed under control by around 2:10 p.m. One firefighter was reported injured, but after examination was cleared to return to duty.
There is no word yet on what caused the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
