Akron man sentenced to one year in jail for wire fraud

A former registered broker was sentenced to a year in jail after pleading guilty to wire fraud.

AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man has been sentenced to one year and one day in jail after pleading guilty to wire fraud charges.

Thomas H. Hissong was sentenced on Friday by U.S. District Solomon Oliver, Jr. Hisson previously pleaded guilty to a five-count indictment that charged him with wire fraud. Additionally, the 58-year-old Hissong was ordered to pay $552,850 in restitution to the victim investors and a fine of $2,000.

Hissong was a former registered broker. According to court documents and Friday's hearing, Hissong is accused of pitching an investment opportunity to investors to buy shares in Plasma Ignitor, a new spark plug technology, over a two-year period from May 2016-May 2018. Hissong, however, allegedly failed to disclose that he would receive a commission on the sales of the shares and is accused of withholding $552,850 of the investors’ monies.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. McDonough.
