Canton man dies after being ejected from car in crash on I-77

Officials say the man was not wearing a seatbelt.

STARK COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is investigating today after a deadly crash along Interstate 77 in Stark County. 

According to the OSHP, 52-year-old Patrick C. Havelock, of Canton died of his injuries after an accident near milepost 96 on I-77.

Highway Patrol agents say that Mr. Havelock was driving a 2011 Dodge Caliber at high speeds according to witnesses, and, while attempting to pass traffic, the man lost control of his car. The car then overturned and Mr. Havelock, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected. Officials say that the seatbelt was buckled behind his body. 

The man was transported to Aultman Hospital where he later died due to his injuries. 

 At this time, alcohol and drugs are not considered factors in the crash, but the incident remains under investigation.

OSHP says that Interstate 77 south was closed for approximately 1 1/2 hours.
