BEACHWOOD, Ohio — The city of Beachwood has announced that Kelly J. Stillman has resigned from his position as police chief, effective immediately.
According to Beachwood Mayor Martin Horwitz, Deputy Chief Katherine M. “Kate” Dolan will be appointed as the police chief in Beachwood. Her first day as deputy chief of police was September 13 of this year.
In a statement, Mayor Horwitz thanked both officers for their service to the community of Beachwood. No reason was given for the abrupt resignation of Stillman.
Prior to Dolan arriving at the Beachwood Police Department, she worked in law enforcement for over two decades, including serving as the chief of police for the Cleveland Metroparks. Dolan also worked from 2001-2018 at the Cleveland Heights Police Department as a basic patrol officer and a captain.
Stillman became Beachwood's police chief in September of 2020. He came to Beachwood after serving as the chief of police in Rocky River for nine years..
During his time at the Rocky River Police Department, Stillman helped implement leadership training for all department officers, established units in Bike Patrol, Motorcycle Patron, Neighborhood Crime Prevention as well as initiation the first Citizen’s Police Academy.
