MINERVA, Ohio — An emergency notice for a portion of the village of Minerva has ended following an incident Monday afternoon.
In a post on Facebook, the village advised those on Metro Street Northwest and Kennel Road Northwest "to remain in their homes" during the ordeal, with police also asking everyone to avoid the area. The alert was lifted around 5:30 p.m.
According to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, a man in his 60s with "several" firearms inside his home was enduring what was described as a "mental health crisis." The man is alleged to have fired his weapon at deputies, who used their squad cars to shield themselves from the bullets. 3News observed one cruiser being towed away with a broken window.
The man was later found dead inside the home, with officials saying he died by suicide. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is now looking into the matter.
There were no other reports of injuries. Stay with WKYC for updates as they become available.
