KENT, Ohio — Police in Kent are investigating a traffic crash that took the life of a 55-year-old man on Monday evening.
According to a release from the Kent Police Department, both police and fire units were sent to the area of Lake Street near Edgewood Drive at around 8:45 p.m. for a report of a crash involving two vehicles.
Investigators discovered that a Spectrum bucket truck was parked on the side of the road facing eastbound on Lake Street, while its worker was gathering equipment from the truck. Police say a Chevrolet Malibu with two people inside approached the area and drove into the back of the Spectrum truck at "a suspected high rate of speed."
The passenger in the Malibu, identified as 55-year-old William A. Williams of Kent, was killed instantly. Kent police report that the driver of the Malibu and the Spectrum truck worker were both taken to area hospitals with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Kent police received assistance from the Summit County Metro Crash Team.
Kent police suspect that both alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.
