MEDINA COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is investigating after a pedestrian was struck on I-71 north near the state Route 3 interchange in Medina County on Wednesday morning.
According to a release from the OSHP, the Medina Dispatch Center received calls about a female pedestrian in the northbound lanes of I-71 just before 8 a.m. When troopers arrived on scene, the pedestrian was being treated by EMS after being run over by a commercial tractor trailer. Troopers also discovered a black 2021 Hyundai Accent parked off of the right side of the roadway near where the incident occurred.
Troopers believe the female was the driver of the Accent. She had been observed walking southbound in the northbound lanes, away from the vehicle, prior to the incident. The pedestrian was taken by EMS to an area hospital for serious injuries
I-71 northbound, just north of the I-271 exit, was closed for several hours. Motorists had been asked to avoid the area and use an alternate route.
