CLEVELAND — A sinkhole is causing headaches for drivers on Cleveland's west side.
Our 3News cameras were at West 128th Street and Belden Avenue in the Jefferson neighborhood on Thursday afternoon. A car was pulled out of the hole at around 4:40 p.m.
"I was scared. Like, 'Oh man, I don't want to lose the car, [have it] go down in the hole and make it a bigger job,' you know what I'm saying?" Chris Townsend with St. Clair Towing said. "I've never seen anything like this before. Never."
Otto Jones lives right at the intersection and noticed something was off before it happened.
"My water just suddenly went off, and I came out and you could hear the water rushing underneath," he explained.
He added he went back inside his home, and roughly 15 minutes later was drawn back out.
"Next thing I know, I heard a big crash," he said. "That young lady with that car."
Jones believes the scene could have been much worse, and is calling on the city to upgrade infrastructure.
"You've got school buses that come through here every day, they drop the kids off right here everyday," he stated. "Now just think if that school bus would've came through there with them kids on there."
Cleveland Water says a six-inch water main broke, although they do not yet know how. By 11 p.m., WKYC was told the water had been turned back on and workers could be seen packing up while filling in the hole, but an exact timeline for full repairs has not been given.
"It's a great neighborhood other than that," Roger Tokers said. "I mean hopefully they fix the problem."
