AKRON, Ohio — A 72-year-old woman is in stable condition after being struck by a stray bullet in Akron.
According to Akron Police, officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of Alexander Street just after 10 a.m. for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officer found a 72-year-old woman with an apparent gunshot wound to her lower back.
The woman told officers she was in a second-floor bedroom when she heard gunshots outside and soon discovered that she had been struck by a bullet that penetrated the front of the house. The woman was transported to Summa Health Akron City Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition with what is believed to be a non-life threatening injury.
According to an initial investigation, it is believed that unknown suspects in an older black vehicle may have exchanged gunfire with subjects in a second vehicle as they traveled down Alexander Street. Multiple shell casings were recovered from the scene and detectives are processing evidence in an effort to identify the subjects involved in the incident.
