19-year-old fatally shot in Summit County

A 19-year-old died from an apparent gunshot wound in Summit County on Sunday.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — A 19-year-old man was fatally shot in Summit County on Sunday.

According to a release, members of the Summit County Sheriff's Office responded to 2600 South Arlington Road in Coventry Township at approximately 2 a.m. on Sunday following reports of gunshots at an event that was taking place. Event security personnel was believed to be ejecting a patron from the event when a security guard fired a shot, striking a 19-year-old in the chest.

The 19-year-old was then transported to a local residence by a friend before being taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Summit County Medical Examiner has identified him as Jayvon Jones-Dehart of Orrville. 

A search warrant was executed in Wayne County and recovered a vehicle and a handgun. An investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to please contact  the Sheriff's Detective Bureau at 330-643-2181.
