Cleveland police: 24-year-old man arrested after allegedly striking 7-year-old girl with car and fleeing scene

A 24-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly striking a 7-year-old girl with his car and then fleeing the scene.

CLEVELAND — A 24-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly hitting a 7-year-old girl with his car and then fleeing the scene in Cleveland on Thursday.

According to Cleveland Police, the incident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. when the 24-year-old man allegedly struck the 7-year-old girl while traveling west on St. Clair Ave. passing the intersection St. Clair and Stevenson Rd. The girl, who was on St. Clair Ave., was not within a crosswalk at the time of the incident.

The driver of the vehicle then allegedly fled the scene, but later turned himself into the East Cleveland Police Department, where he was placed under arrest for fleeing the scene of an accident. The 7-year-old girl suffered head injuries as a result of the incident and was transported to UH Rainbow Children's & Babies Hospital via EMS.
