NORTH CANTON, Ohio — A North Canton man has been sentenced to life in prison for raping a young girl he knew.
On Thursday, Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Susan Baker Ross sentenced 69-year-old Robert Yost of Arlington Road in North Canton to life in prison. Additionally, Yost has been designated as a Tier III sex offender and will be required to register with the local sheriff every 90 days for the rest of his life if released from prison.
Last month, a Summit County jury found Yost guilty of the following charges:
- Four Counts of Rape – Felonies of the 1st Degree
- Four Counts of Gross Sexual Imposition – Felonies of the 3rd Degree
Yost's sentencing comes nearly three years after a young girl he knew reported that she was sexually assaulted by him earlier that day. An ensuing investigation found that Yost had sexually assaulted the girl over a three-year period, with DNA evidence being used to connect Yost to the assault.
