ELYRIA, Ohio — A 68-year-old man was killed in an apartment fire that occurred in Elyria on Sunday morning.
Elyria Firefighters were called at approximately 11:15 a.m. for a reported structure fire at 504 Oriole Court on the city’s South East side. Upon arrival, crews found a moderate smoke condition and a deceased male near the front door of the apartment.
The victim has since been identified as James Rodgers.
The fire was under control quickly, but the man was pronounced dead on the scene. No other injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
Damage to the apartment was extensive and estimated at $20,000. An investigation is ongoing.
