CLEVELAND — We have a big lottery winner as one lucky player just hit the $478 million Powerball jackpot in the latest drawing on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024.
Powerball officials say the lucky lottery ticket was sold in the state of Georgia, but the exact location was not immediately disclosed.
"The lucky ticket holder in Georgia will have the choice between an annuitized prize of $478.2 million or a lump sum payment of $230.6 million," according to Powerball officials. "Both prize options are before taxes. If the winner selects the annuity option, they will receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5-percent each year."
This is the eighth time the Powerball jackpot has been won this year.
Although nobody hit the top prize here in Ohio, there were still thousands of other prizes hit throughout the Buckeye State -- which you can see listed below...
- $200 prize: 17 winners
- $100 prize: 29 winners
- $14 prize: 456 winners
- $8 prize: 4,864 winners
- $7 prize: 1,043 winners
- $4 prize: 10,768 winners
But that's not all... Powerball lottery officials say there were also two big winning tickets worth $1 million sold in Pennsylvania and Texas.
The lucky numbers from the Wednesday night drawing were 2, 15, 27, 29, 39 and Powerball 20. The Power Play option was 2x.
The jackpot now resets to its starting point of $20 million for the next Powerball drawing, which is set for Saturday, Oct. 26, at 10:59 p.m. That prize has a cash option worth $9.6 million.
Powerball lottery officials say the odds of hitting the jackpot are one in 292,201,338, which is slightly better than the Mega Millions odds of one in 302,575,350. The odds of hitting a $1 million winning ticket in Powerball, meanwhile, are one in 11,688,053.52.
Northeast Ohio had a big Powerball winner last year as one lucky ticket sold at a GetGo in Macedonia hit the jackpot worth $252.6 million during the April 19 drawing.
