CLEVELAND — Severe storms moved their way through most of Northeast Ohio on Thursday evening, battering the area with high winds, hail, and plenty of rainfall.
On the day after, communities are still trying to clean up after the mess. Here's a rundown of some of the damage we've seen around the area on Friday:
Bay Village
Residents told 3News' Neil Fischer that approximately 16 homes on Canterbury Road had flooding on Thursday. Unfortunately, it's not the first time that these homeowners had had to deal with these types of problems. Some homes have had flooding three times in the month of July.
Mentor
The City of Mentor has announced that Mentor Beach Park and the trails at the Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve are closed until further notice.
In addition, Mentor-on-the-Lake police tell 3News that the owner of the below vehicle was going to the store to get food for her son's graduation party when the pole landed on the front hood of her car.
Police say the woman was stuck inside her vehicle for an hour before FirstEnergy responded. However, the woman was not injured in the accident
Emma Henderson spoke with a pair of Mentor residents facing their own unique challenges with cleaning up after the storm.
For Eloise Campbell, the generator is a welcome sound. But the damage outside is not a welcome sight. From downed trees in the front, to a tree taking out part of her fence in the back. But the scariest part for her was what she saw on her way home Thursday night.
"I saw a utility pole come down and then I saw another tree come down on an SUV, so by that time I was super scared," she said.
And the issues didn't end there, once Eloise got safely home, she couldn't pull her car in because of downed trees. Her neighbor Mike's driveway came in handy, but Mike Sandman and his family are dealing with issues of their own.
"A tree fell on the back of the house which I cut up already, and all kinds of limbs everywhere, fences are all smashed up back there, both houses," he added.
So Mike has been out working in the yard all day. He's contemplating buying a generator of his own.
"No air, we have a freezer full of food and we just stocked up, too. That's all bad. We're going to have to throw it out," he said.
Brooklyn
We received this video submission from Kyle Work, showing flooding in a creek next to the Sam's Club.
Thousands of FirstEnergy customers were still without power as of Friday night. You can see the latest numbers here.
